Abstract
there are a number of Hadith “there is no Mahdi except Jesus” in Sunni sources
even in Sehah Sette, the six correct hadith books. Some people according to this
hadith believe that there is no Promised Mahdi and the person who appears in end
of the day will be Jesus, the son of Maryam. In this research at first all narrator of
the hadith has been extracted and analyzed. The result shows that all the chains of
hadiths which include this part are weak and unreliable. So, the mentioned hadith
doesn’t have any reliable chain. Furthermore, the textual analysis of the hadith
shows that this narration is in contrast with the correct and reliable hadiths which
say Promised Mahdi is from the descendent of holy Prophet (pbuh) and his name
is as the same as the name of the Prophet. According to these hadiths Jesus, the son
of Mary, will follow and imitate Promised Mahdi. Therefore, the mentioned hadith
both in chain and text is weak and unreliable and is contrary with the numerous
correct hadith.
